Censorship and American Stupidity (8)
This post is on the Other Topics web board.

girl recently found this link on her Facebook feed, and thought she would share it with Y/you all. If what girl understands is correct, then TSR may get blocked and any American members may lose access to the site.

"Yes," I said. "His ass has been well kicked."

Thanks for the link - i didn't read all the way through it, but it seems aimed more at sites that post copy-written material. Of course, these bills always have 'unintended' consequences and they might well be able to restrict us from TSR, if they should feel threatened by it at some point.
i am not comfortable with it, either. It seems every where you turn someone is trying to take control and remove freedoms. Blah.

I don't believe TSR has anything to fear at all, namely because it has a use 'other than infringing copyright, enabling or facilitating copyright infringement.' As far as I know, no one here is trying to sell anything (other than themselves, hah hah), so the chance of TSR being targeted seems slim to none.
However, these politicians are so ass backwards it isn't even funny anymore. Sometimes less is more....
We are becoming a militaristic nation, and that's inexcusable. So long youtube...so long deviantart....So long. Cheers!

I do not think this has to do with TSR, because TSR isn't infringing on anyone's copy writes. This is not intended, in my opinion, to be a stab at adult websites and discussion boards, but a way to stop piracy. I think You Tube and sites like Tumblr would be the hardest hit.
It could certainly affect American posters on discussion boards. The people who post links to You Tube that contain stolen material and the people who copy and paste articles could be facing charges.
But I do not think this will pass. The one thing I have found is our government rarely agrees on anything. We should be fine.
Best wishes,
slave emma

TSR has nothing to worry about.
The legislation is about piracy of copyrighted materials and the selling of such outside of the USA... for example music sites where you upload and share copyrighted music (ie. Limewire). I think the legislation is a preemptive strike against nations like China, which have huge problems with copyright infringement and their government seems unwilling to do anything about it.
As we to not upload and share copyrighted materials here... and the AUP expressly prohibits copyright infringement, I think TSR is safe. "We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin must be shed before a new one can come." ~ Joseph Campbell

I have to agree I don't think it would affect TSR. And honestly, did you see the list of protesting companies...google, yahoo, facebook....big names equals big money and generally that means something like this will not pass. |

Unfortunately, that's not necessarily the case -- on several occasions when Big Tech companies faced off against Big Pharma companies over patent rules, or when Big Tech compnanies faced off against MPAA/RIAA over copyright protections etc., Big Tech has lost...
