I just found out that by entering one's name into a Search Engine like Google or Yahoo,, All the 'Private' messages that the person has said & those said to him or her, will come up For ANYBODY To See!! ........... Someone told me they found some things I had said by doing this & I did not believe it! How could it be true when we all have to sign into this? I thought to myself. ... But curiosity got the better of me. Just 5 Minutes ago, I did the same thing as an experiment. .. I typed My own username into Yahoo Search, & all those 'private' conversations I have had on the boards here came up!! Not just what I said,, but everyone who had spoken to me too came up!! .......... So people,, "Be Very Very Careful What You say on This Site & possibly on Other Sites!,, It is NOT As Secure as You May Believe!! ... And Guard those Usernames With Your Life! It came up with my profile information - i assume if someone else was to type in my info it would not actually log them into this site showing my details e.g. messages to people etc. it will show if you have responded to a thread (such as this no doubt!) but i'm unaware if it will also bring up your personal messages. i hope someone looks into this. x 2 Nov 10, 5:56 PM property_of_MacCain 4 yrs Yep. If someone knows your user name they can see what you post on these boards. That is why we use "user names" and not our birth names. That goes for any site not just this one. Internet safety 101. Also, anyone can log in as a guest, no one needs an account to browse. My goodness! Why do you think there are warnings not to put up personal information? Common sense goes along way. p Hi, i don't know if i've come across right or not - in my post i was hoping that if you for example were to click on my profile name (in google or whatever search engine) you would not be able to log in with my particular details to view my private messages to others. I fully understand about postings becoming public property as this is a public site - whereas with the likes of facebook etc you can hide various details and ensure only "friends" etc can view your information. 2 Nov 10, 6:28 PM property_of_MacCain 4 yrs Sorry, flower, i wasn't responding to your post. No, your private memos don't come up. You need to log on to see memos. The OP was referring to regular posts. i was also referring to posts, not memos. Hence those conversations you have in a public forum wouldn't be private. You don't have to be a member to read these pages, just to post. And remember...all of us use pseudonyms so you never know who is really behind those names..it could be your next door neighbour or your postman!
