D-type, s-type, D/O/M etc? (12)
This post is on the O&P web board.

When writing posts about O&P it's handy to have general terms. I sometimes use D-type and s-type when trying to make it clear I'm speaking generally. I've seen "D/O/M" = "Dominant/Owner/Master" used too. Have people come across any others?

D/O/M is the one this girl uses, she actually only heard of D-type & s-type very recently. she is interested to see if others use different terms.. This girl has never felt such bliss, when her hands are bound above her head with her Master's eyes laid upon her

This slave also uses Top or bottom. This is mostly to reference the same as D/O/M for Top and s/s for bottom. It's just simpler and covers both dynamics.

*smiles*
At the moment, I tend to get confused as when training would always communicate all things differently depending on the the style in which the bottom was used to...since I am now more a homebody of sorts, I have realized I have lost My identity a bit and can not seem to stick with one set of rules.....FOR ANYTHING!
ie...Answered a memo here the other night about Gor and actually started typing in the third person without noticing.
*shakes Head*
Now that I wrote this and feel a bit inferior, *looks at his caoimhe* I think a good flogging is most definitely in order...
back in an hour,

When I had Nef as a sub , I called her Mine or Nef and she called Me Master or sometimes by My first name. To describe our relationship, we used D/s . Griff |

I only use the terms "Top" and "Bottom" in reference to people who play those roles in "scenes" as I don't equate them in any sense with O&P relationships, and I don't see them as being on the same level as a Dom, Owner or Master. I think I'd actually be insulted if someone referred to me as a "Bottom", even if it was in a general, sweeping way.
I like D-type and s-type as it covers the gamut of roles that relate to O&P. You can be dominant and submissive without being *a* Dominant, or *a* Submissive, and Owners and Masters are, generally speaking, Dominant, as are property and slaves, generally speaking, submissive.
YMMV
i have no need, for such things, but to make you happy...

This slave's Master is the same actually. He says Top/bottom should be used for scene'ers and not to cover all. That's just this slave being lazy.

But you know there's more characters in Top/bottom than there is in D/O/M and s/s, right? i have no need, for such things, but to make you happy...

Yep, that's why it covers all.

Umm, I meant characters as in:
"the symbols of a writing system collectively", and my comment was in reference to you saying you type Top/bottom because you are lazy.
*sigh*

I generally use Top/bottom to refer to those who only play in the bedroom, and generally only in reference to the actual roles played in such scenes. I use Dom/sub as general identifiers for those who are in more of a lifestyle relationship, and Master/slave for those who are in Total Power Exchange relationships (to me meaning that the slave has given up the right to have limits and safewords outside of the Master's desires). I try to avoid using generalized terms, as clarity and accuracy in communication are important to me, Dom/sub is the most general of the terms, and I will tend to use that when I am not talking about a specific dynamic. |
