TSR : Web boards : M/s D/s O&P : "Barcodes & GPS positioning" 1 2 3
Barcodes & GPS positioning (24)
This post is on the M/s D/s O&P web board.

my HTC Desire has a barcode reader, wouldn't it be cool if Tanos had an Android & iPHone app made that has the Slave Register database on it so slaves and who they belong to could be identified if they had a barcode tatoo?
It must be quite simple now with todays technology as I have a diet program I scan products into and it recognises them based on a central database -
Also my phone even has GPS positioning so I could be tracked easily via a website. Don't worry, be happy!

Highly unlikely to happen as you have to sign up to be an android coder then submit your app to the company where they only release it if they approve and much as it would be useful to a small M/s community I can't see it getting through!

On the other hand, if you give your Master/Mistress the appropriate access (depending on what phone you have) your GPS location can be tracked 24/7 from the website. Hm.. I'll have to think about that. |

That would be cool. It would also be cool if TSR had a regular app for posting/reading on the boards, and for memos.

I think also though, just in case things go sour, you should be able to block your GPS to a profile user. I know there are ex's I wouldn't want to know when I wasn't home. My name is Lord Uther, king of kings:

i did some research into the GPS location uses in a typical cell phone, and it rendered that basically, for a civilian, it is not very useful-with perhaps the exception of those apps that show where your friends are-my cell phone isn't quite that fancy. If anyone has any information to the contrary that would be awesome, and i hope you would share it with me.
898-443-818 i am a slave-i have no rights, no safewords, i do not say "no" to my Master. i do not have "limits". i have entered into consensual slavery, so that may help explain the views in my post.

It is my understanding that a slave who carries an i-phone connected to Master's online account, can always be traced / positioned very precisely. non sibi sed suis - http://deviantslave.wordpress.com

That applies to the iPhone, but in general Android phones are more open. You have to pay $25 to Google to get a developer key, and your need their approval to place your application on the Google App Market. However, on most Android[1] phones you can enable an option that allows you to install applications downloaded from any website.
You can also install any application that you develop yourself on your own machine without needing a developer key from Google - I do this during application development. Sometime I need to get around to paying the $25 fee!
[1] I believe ATT may disable this, but don't quote me on it

On my Android Milestone (European Droid), my location is typically 1-2 miles away from where I am *unless* I turn on the GPS option, in which case it is normally within 50-100m. This is in a small provincial city, with infrequent masts. Out in the countryside it is worse.
There are two ways of getting location information on a phone:
- From the phone company masts. This is not very accurate except in built-up cities where masts are plentiful
- From the GPS satellite system. Accuracy can be as good as 5m, but is typically worse, in my case about 50-100m
The civilian/military distinction was abolished about 10 years ago by Clinton, when he turned off the deliberate error introduced into the civilian signal (mainly because the military had started to use cheap civilian receivers instead of expensive military ones by then). I don't think the recently launched replacement satellites even include the deliberate error feature. |

Many thanks for your valuable input. I wonder how policies change when you get to the UK?
