Comfort levels are different for E/everyone. I usually don't use a contract, but I can see where it would make a slave more comfortable knowing that certain things are in black and white, and out front/in the open.

i agree Sir, but a slave should not have a contract to give to a Master. Giving a contract to a Master basically says, "this is what i'll agree to". However, if during intial discussions and negotiations a slave presents the idea of using a contract and presenting "example" contracts to their Master, that's different.
my Sir and i have discussed contracts. He requested i did research and present different ones to Him. This was months ago. |

i agree with you, marigolde, a contract should be a collaboration between the Owner and the slave. One method would be for both the Owner and slave to write up a contract and then bring them together and meld them into one contract. Another is to just sit down together and write one out. Draft contracts are a good start, but it's best to personalize them. Another useful tool is for an Owner to present a prospective slave with a questionnaire to fill out asking various questions (sexual, health, limits and other topics). This questionnaire can later be used to help draft up a contract. |

animal_fucker and Ravenkaldera hit the nail on the head. An unowned submissive who presents herself with a contract in hand has already defined a dynamic relationship in isolation. An unowned submissive who presents himself with a thoughtful list of probing questions for a dom or a master presents the basis for/of a contractual agreement.
Whether or not a written contract is finally employed, the conversations, questions, answers demonstrate the qualities/character both are seeking (e.g., sanity, consistency, commitment, etc.).
We often find ourselves fixed on sexual matters, the psycho-sexual which draws us into d/s, M/s. But. Someone has to climb out of bed and make the coffee. The laundry basket always fills. Food must always be purchased. And the damn phone rings. How those daily matters are to be handled, paid for, arranged are relevant topics for conversation.
Most of us do better when compelled to put our 'thoughts' into writing. A written list of questions sharpens the conversations, focuses the search, and can hardly be considered either disrepectful or aggressive. Permissum illic exsisto tripudium Romae!

I certainly agree that it's best for both parties to understand the other's expectations and desires before any relationship is entered into. That way disappointment is avoided.
I find it helps to have potential slaves come to my property for a day or weekend so that I can see how they behave under my temporary ownership and they can see what is expected of them. I can see how they interact with my other livestock too.
And I am open to requests to a certain extent. Clarity of purpose, intention and practice is key in my experience. Therefore, I do now use a contract, although I prefer to term it a slave's 'ownership document,' kept by me, which sets out duties, sanctions, and responsibilities (both mine as the owner, and theirs as my property, in the case of this last item).
