Wasn't sure where to post this, please feel free to move it if it is not appropriate. (and i hope it makes sense as well)
i was wondering about different perceptions of pain.
i guess i should explain my situation a bit here...i have had back/hip problems since i was 16 years old, over the years and with my weight changes, it has progressively gotten worse. last december i was in a car accident, im sure it didn't help my situation at all with my back but my main injuries were my ribs and shoulder from the seat belt, the ribs healed and the shoulder got worse. my regular doctor tried steroid shots and pain management with darvocet, the darvocet always helped with my back so it was a logical choice and one that i agree with.
but thats not exactly what i was hoping for. i want it fixed. i decided to try a chiropractor. being somewhat new to this area, i had a friend recommend one. it turns out he is fantastic, awesome doctor and awesome bedside manner too.
my issue is that my shoulder IS getting better but my back/hips are not. i get SO frustrated at times! im tired of feeling like a little old lady and having to schedule events around my pain...ANYWAYS, getting back on track.
Master brought up the very thing i have been thinking about...how can i ask/beg for a spanking, hair pulling, etc and it doesn't bother me in the least, if He doesn't completely wear me out to the point of being incoherent, i want more more more!
...but the ache in my back and hips after a few days or so leaves me a frustrated, crying wreck?
wats up wit dat? The devil came to me last night and asked what I wanted in exchange for my soul.
I still can't believe I said pizza. Friggin' cravings.

Master and i have had several conversations regarding pain. Why i crave one but not another? My deduction, at this point in time, is that all pain is not created equal. Seems like a simple concept, doesn't it? After all, it would not make sense to hardly anyone that a broken leg would produce the exact same reaction as a thorough spanking. The results are certainly different.
Does a broken leg create pain? Yes
Does an intense spanking create pain? Yes
But the two origins of pain are totally different. One may be yearned for, while the other is not. The physical, mental, and emotional responses of a slave to her/his Master is much different than what your reaction would be to a nonstop pain, that doesn't feed your soul. In fact it depletes your energy. A M/s relationship and the "pain" that is inflicted within that bond, is cleansing, and cathartic because it is given as needed, and in ways that are positive.
Your shoulders, hips, and back just suffer pain. They don't give back, they don't ease you into it, they don't create an endorphin high, nor do they cuddle you or provide aftercare upon cessation.
While i do not know of your relationship or how it's structured i can only make this statement for myself, but perhaps it may hold merit for you as well...i am capable of begging and/or receiving much pain from my Beloved. He knows my triggers, and needs. I long for the closeness that is created when W/we engage in painful activities because i have full knowledge that i am cared for,and protected. And when the physical limitations are reached, i have loving arms to fall into.
Injuries, body aches and pains, offer no such promise.
That's the difference for me.
~i do hope your difficulties improve and i am sorry to hear about such a chronic health issue.
sincerely,

I can relate to unwanted pain. I tore the rotator cuff in my shoulder over a year ago, and am still working on the pain and mobility aspect of it. I can't put my arm behind my back at all and can put it over shoulder height for only short periods of time. Doing everyday things can lead to sudden shots of pain in the shoulder or up my arm and some days it is just a constant throb. It is a long process when you want to avoid surgery.
Amazing then, isn't it, that I can ask to get my ass whacked with the flogger or paddle. I guess I seperate it into two categories. Good pain and bad pain. Not realy sure how I seperate the two, other than one is a chronic pain that does me no good whatsoever and the other can benefit me greatly. 333-528-841

I think I can answer this one. I am a retired RN who worked in truama.
The shoulder pain, as with other injury pains, - hip, back, tummyache, etc., is the body's way of telling your brain something is wrong. Rather like the warning lights that come on in a car if there is a malfunction.
The pain from BDSM play is of a different order; here the nerve endings are stimulated and endorphins, natural morhine-like hormones are released which of course induces euphoria. But if you are beaten/tortured to a point that actual injury is inflicted then your body starts telling your brain otherwise. To be a true slave is to be truly free
