Poly Software (6)
This post is on the M/s D/s O&P web board.

I am wondering if there is any collaborative software out there that works for poly families. Are the instant messenger programs good enough? There is software that is out there that is tailored for businesses. I would imagine that is good for getting stuff done, coordinating activities.
What does everyone use and is there room for improvement? |

We use Google Docs and it has worked quite well. It provides email, shared calendars, shared documents, tasks, chat, etc.
Twitter may be fine for simple update purposes but we needed something more robust for communication and day-to-day household management.

Got to second the above regarding Google.
I use it not just for the daily emails and chat, but the shared calenders make organizing life between us all much much easier.
The beauty of Google calenders and docs, in comparison to something like Twitter, is that it is private...only the people you choose can have access. I actually have several calenders shared with different people...one for pagan things and a couple for "lifestyle" (each boy having his own), plus my more general family ones. |

I havent seen the google application but I would imagine it is web based. I do know that MS Outlook is capable of those things minus messenger and the information stays on your PC (or home server). Regards,

You see PT most are very cordial to others when there is mutual respect. I am happy to see you are posting in a fashion that conveys what you are trying to say minus the blither. Regards,

LillyMoon I would be interested to learn how do you deal with overlapping information among your calendars. I want to know whether Google Docs makes this simple or do you have to go about updating information the old fashioned way, that is by going to each calendar and make the appropriate changes and having to make the same update over and over again for each calendar if something is shared in common.

I use the Google Calender feature...You can have multiple calenders on view and each has their own linked to their email and shared with the appropriate people. I obviously have access to them all, with the ability to add and amend as required, the boys can make additions to their own calenders only.
The beauty IMO of it being web based is that amendments can be made to the calenders from any computer so even when apart things can be kept up to date.

Not true! You CAN create a private group of friends and pass messages between yourselves that others cannot see.
