I am not a depressed sort of person usually and am quite resilient and able to bounce back fairly quickly from life's little setbacks. Yet, I know that feeling of being burdened by your job. It weighs on me and I am not always able to sort it all out emotionally right way. I find during these periods (which are few and far between thank goodness) that I have what I call airhead moments and I get a bit clumsy. It generally lasts a day or two and then I am back to being myself again. With courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble. First of all, are you talking about the feeling of depression (unhappiness) or clinical depression? Clinical depression is the type that lasts over two weeks without any cause. It's just a feeling of total worthlessness and negativity without cause. A lot of people get that mixed up nowadays. Then there's manic depression which is a roller coaster of moods. Going happy to sad without the middle stage.

do you get depressed or bouts of depression?
Yes.
how do you handle it? if you try to avoid taking drugs, what do you do?
This slave doesn't take drugs. She instead tries to take control of herself. Talking about it always helps, chocolate, affection, being around others really helps. Don't be alone while depressed, it sort of festers and worsens.
do you goto a doctor for every small bout of depression? or do you consider it a normal part of your life cycle?
This slave hasn't gone before. She's very stubborn in liking to fight things by herself, depression included. There's always the chance meds can make you worse and even suicidal. She has seasonal depression, gets it once every 3-4 months and can last off/on a week to a month. It's easier now because she knows when to expect it (when seasons change).
How does your partner(insert whatever you call them here) help you snap out of it? or help you deal with it?
Talking and affection. No negativity or arguments.
does it take you a while to see it when you have it?
It can sometimes. Sometimes she's just really down for no reason, and can't tell why. She can be at the top of the world situation-wise, and feel down emotionally. She checks the calendar, and that can help her identify it. Also when on her monthly more prone to it, but that can be considered "PMS."
Do you feel overwhelmed, or numb when you get depressed, how does depression manifest in you, are you aware of your symptoms or do you fight them for a while before acknowledging it?
Not numb. Definitely overwelmed with life in general. Feelings like worthlessness, not good enough, not wanting to live, not feeling deserving of anything. Etc.
To fight anything, you must first acknowledge it.

Hello. i'm new here as a newly owned slave and quite honestly content for the first time in my life now i have found that which was missing from my life for so long. Depression is a most horrid illness which carries such stigma, and i have suffered in the past from it though as a reactive depression following the death of a child. often medication is a must, even for a short time, and was a life saver for me.Now i find that physical exercise is a great way to lift me and get those endorphines rushing, but it needs to be intense. And never underestimate the power of positive thought. Stay positive, stay well. |

I think 221-176-864 makes a good and very important point here. Clinical depression CAN be a result of external events, (traumatic or prolonged) and once present, it might last from weeks to years. It's true that a person can lessen the severity of symptoms via exercise and other therapies, but there's no self-cure. And for the overwhelming majority, the risk of suicide and/or a worsening of symptoms is far greater for those patients who don't use antidepressant medication than in those who do. There's also the time spent/wasted feeling miserable while waiting for the thing to go away to consider.
Self-diagnosis and treatment can be a tricky thing in any situation, but particularly in the case of "blues" vs depression - the judgment needed is the first thing to be affected. If a person suffers symptoms of depression it's best to consult a professional.
