| According to news reports Jade Goody could have a statue created in her honour in Bermondsey. Bob Skelly, Bermondsey's Council Chairman, said :“The council has plans for the Dickens Estate area where Jade grew up, and I'm sure we could do something.”
As the Council is taking responsibility, the cost of the statue could well come from Council Tax Payer's money.
Take a Grip, Bermondsey Council !!
Did Jade Goody donate either her time or money to the local youth clubs, or facilities for the elderly or disabled? No !!
Did she use her celebrity status to bring attention to the problems faced by Bermondsey residents – high unemployment, crime, lack of facilities for the young and elderly? NO!!
Consider the former Blue Peter presenter Caron Keating who died from cancer and did far more for charity than Jade, yet there is no statue of her anywhere.
According to further recent press reports, which have been confirmed by her friends, a Musical is to be made of her life !! Pass me the sick bucket quickly !!
Please don't misunderstand me I'm extremely sorry that she died from cervical cancer, having lost two members of my family to cancer. But what I resent is this canonization of Jade Goody. As for Archbishop Jonathan Blake, who recently said on Andrew Marr's Sunday Show that Jade Goody was 'a Saint of Upshire, a Princess of Bermondsey'. Behave yourself, Archbishop!! Or as John McEnroe would say "You cannot be serioud !!"
It was bad enough when Diana died but this is just sickening now.
What about all the people who do not get the chance to make millions to leave for their kids? Or the ones who die alone? Surely individuals like these deserve more sympathy and attention than Jade Goody.
A few days ago, on the This Morning show, Jade Goody's Mother and also her publicist Max Clifford, talked a great deal of her legacy. Well, in my opinion Jade Goody's legacy was that she appeared on the worst TV programme ever to hit our screens and now, because of people like Max Clifford she has been made into a celebrity for being a racist . It is very very worrying and a true reflection of our society, which depresses me deeply.
With regards to cervical cancer her legacy was that she was too silly not to go back for a check-up after her initial smear test claiming "she didn't need too" and now look, she's dead from cervical cancer.
I bet tomorrow's Sunday tabloids will again contain at least one, if not more, Jade Goody story.
My view is that enough is enough and it's time to close down the Jade Goody Circus!!
Do you agree/disagree? Do you think that Jade Goody should be promoted as a role model for young people? And finally do you believe that Council Tax payer's money should be used to pay for a statue of Jade Goody, in fact should there even be a statue of Jade Goody, even if it's paid for privately?
