Some people feel that, since the slave is a part of the Master as the hand is a part, is simply doesn't make sense to thank them. You'd not thank your hand for picking up your fork...so why thank the slave?

Others see the slave as a separate entity and thus thank them for their service because they 1) want to show appreciation and/or 2) grew up in "polite society" where one thanked "the help".

My response (as a true slave) would be "there is no need to thank me but i appreciate your thoughts"
