First I will chime in and agree with everyone else... it is up to You. Second however I will add something new. I use different implements for punishment and training. Hand, belt and paddle are punishments while flog, riding crop and whip are training. In my opinion keeping the two forms separate in the mind of the slave is important. But for many of the reasons corporal punishment is felt to be inappropriate with a child, I think its use is inappropriate with a submissive - the most obvious being that it's unnecessary and unkind.
