<snicker> Very funny... good point.

And hi Camille

Oh some very old joke which as MT implied is generally made with reference to a woman's boobs... probably something to do with their association with melons in english schoolboy... if they are large, you don't get many of THOSE to the pound do you? <said with appropriate sly nudge nudge wink wink looks>

I was applying the same thought to a person with a barcoded slrn... I could just imagine someone saying it to MT. Just my daft sense of humour.

Regards,

yes, exactly, as the '?' says it all...

is 'warm and fuzzy' *ever* used in a serious way? if so, here it should be read as saccharine irony.

and the book, to me, also sounds like a rip-off, but of 1/3 of the writings of Octavia Butler, put through the teen mill of course.

cheers grl

The warm and fuzzy emotional associations that go with terms like "slave" and "sadomasochism"?

Well, "slave" and "sadomasochism" don't really have strong associations with huge impersonal corporate or governmental bureaucracies -- and I think there are a fair number of devoted bodice-ripper-readers etc. out there in the "mainstream" who have some kind of intuitive subjective understanding of the submissive impulse (even though they have no realistic desire to live as a slave themselves), but who would be highly insulted to be personally compared to a generic interchangeable bar-code-labeled can of peas sitting on a supermarket shelf next to a whole row of identical cans of peas. I was just answering 119-812-164's query as to why there seem to be no "happy" bar code tattoos in non-M/s literature... ;-)

The Bar Code tatto was also used in the television show "Dark Angel" with Jessica Alba in it. It was used to keep track of the super-soldier genetic creations of a small group of military scientists called Manticore. Their tattoos were on the back of their necks and were genetically implanted so they could only be removed temporarily because they returned.

Just more info on the 'Barcode culture'.

What about QR Codes?

I've had my QR Code tattoo for almost twelve months and it attracts a lot of questions and attention!

Yeah, it's almost certainly a lie. But it's still amusing :)
