i know there's another post about dog bowls, but i figured starting a topic would get better replies for me. i'm looking for answers to the exact questions below please.

i have a really short tongue. It's wide but not long, so it gets sore when i eat out of a bowl or so anything else that requires me to stretch it out a lot (and no, it doesn't interfere with pleasing Master, lol). So Master and i are looking for advice/info on a few things:

- where to buy a shallow dog dish

- what kind of a technique i should be using with my mouth/face/tongue to eat from a bowl

- how many people on TSR use them and in what sort of a context (such as with kitty or puppy play, cages, ect)

- if people use a water dish as well

- what foods are typically eaten out of dog bowls

Thanks! nadia

Zero is my puppy name and I usually refer to her as her own being..just so you don't get confused..lol

But we got her puppy bowl at wal mart. It is just a stainless silver bowl with blue non skid stuff on the bottom. I painted it with her name and little puppy paws on it. It is farely shallow, enough that she can drink out of it. Zero has not had much of a chance to eat a meal from her dish, we have kids..lol. But when she has it has usually been cereal, something like kix. Seth has kicked the idea of using corn beef and hash, since I call it dog food anyways. lol

As for how to...she started lapping but usually ends up inda sucking the water.

Seth aslo has a water bottle to to give her drinks.

Hope this helps a bit

As far as shallow dishes, why not use a plate? My real cats have their own plate...that matches MY plates. I accidentally chipped one of my daily use plates and when I bought a replacement, I decided it'd be funny if they had it. Walmart usually sells plates individually.

By far, puppy play is the leader as far as animal play followed closely by pony play. Kitty play is making itself known. If you look hard enough, you'll find every kind of animal play for every kind of animal.

Many people in the lifestyle also consider themselves to be Otherkin, so you get a component of the therian otherkin in the lifestyle, too. Usually these are canine, feline or avian in nature. This is slightly different than animal play as Therians believe part of their core nature is the animal side of themselves and NOT just a role they play.

Master and I have not yet gotten to the pet dishes but for something shallow that you might need perhaps try kitty dishes some are shallower than some of the dog bowls. And I suppose that you could always find something that is for dogs with shorter noses perhaps by searching on the web if what you are looking for is not at walmart. Just a thought. manxie kitty

Master and I found the perfect human pet bowl in an Indian supermarket. It's a shallow, wide rimmed stainless steel bowl that is normally used for placing small portions of Indian curries on the table. (Like in an Indian restaurant)

Of course, this is all depends on whether you have an Indian community in your area. Alternatively, most homeware stores have shallow bowls of some description.

As to what foods are best served? It's normally a case of trial and error. Rice type foods work well, small pasta with minimal sauce, vegetables cut into small pieces, cut fruits... the list is only as long as your imagination. I can't imagine water bowls being a particularly good option if you're wanting to stay hydrated and drink the recommended 2 Litres a day of water.

i have kitty bowls, for kitten play. and mine are quite shallow being cat ones but it gives the problem of my nose getting in the way, in terms of drinking i tend to find licking it up tend to take a while (unless its Masters cum then thats easier to lick up) so i kind of hoover liquids up (no slurping though) and i tend to find this easy to do, with food substances i lick up coz it just sticks to my tongue, its kind of something you have to practise though, and find a comfortable way to sit whists doing it, certain ways can make you feel sick and isnt very good for digestion

If you're intent on getting an actual dog dish, by all means check out the pet supply stores.

As far as technique goes, I'm afraid I can't help you. I haven't had the option of using a pet dish yet, but it may become a part of our pet play, someday.

I know of others who use one of those rabbit water bottles as opposed to water dishes.

One food that I've seen suggested (for puppy play, especially) is beef stew -- cold or heated, depending on personal preference. Perhaps for kitty play, tuna fish or chicken and gravy would work well. I think just about anything could be served in a dog bowl.

It's been a few years, but in my experience, the best type of dog dish for eating out of is one that's wide enough to fit almost your entire face into, and has a generally rounded interior rather than a squared-off corner type joint where the sides meet the bottom. The hardest part is chasing food around in the corners with your tongue. I just dug my old ones out of the dusty toybag; the interior diameter at the top is 7 inches, the interior diameter at the bottom of the bowl is about 5 1/2, the depth is about 2, and the diameter of the base is 10 inches. That's just about right for me, and it holds enough for one small meal at a feeding.

As for the best kind of food to eat out of it, (again) in my experience, anything that comes in dry or semi-dry chunks is best - cut-up meat scraps, torn-up bread, lightly cooked vegetables... the drier and more solid the better, whereas the wetter and sloppier it is, the more work it is to round it all up with your tongue. Which I suppose is sometimes the point (from the perspective of the person doing the feeding), but the question was asked from the perspective of the person doing the eating.

You can get bowls of this type at any modestly-sized pet store, for about 7 or 8 bucks a pop, and they make an excellent water dish as well.
