Purchasing a toy box (22)

This post is on the Other Topics web board (moved from Service).

Good morning.

Master has charged me with the duty of asking you all about finding a toy box. We've been using a cardboard box.

So, what do you all recommend? What do you use for a toy box? Right now our number of toys are limited to small items, but I know that will change in the future.

Bear in mind that we have a four year old, and a couple of friends who like to randomly look inside things (one fellow spotted the hastily put away cardboard box and soon regretted the enlightenment he found therein).

Any info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i've an antique steamer trunk that i *am going to* refinish that has a clasp for a padlock. The nice thing about steamer trunks is that they can double as a coffee table or end table complete with padlock and appear to be just a beautiful piece of furniture (the padlock is an added bonus!).

Steamer trunks, as well as just plain antique wooden boxes are so sturdy and aesthetically pleasing that no one is the wiser..

Good Luck and Happy Trails

I agree, this seems the way to go. We have an antique mahogany chest, (which I am also refinishing - here's to getting it done soon zero!) and fitting with a brass lock. It's solid and extremely heavy sits at the foot of our bed. As zero said, it's aesthetically pleasing and nothing unusual about having them locked.

i have a locking toolbox. its more of a briefcase type shape instead of a typical mechanics toolbox so i just slide it right under the bed ;)

ohh yeah,, i have my hide-a-vibe pillow too. its been around for years & both our kids just think its a bed pillow.

the sting of His whip~ the welts from His crop~ the warmth of His kiss~ the click of the lock~ assures me i am His most cherished possession.

For going out I use an alloy camera equipment box that locks. If you dont have much atm this would be a good start as you can use it for going out too, now or later

We have wooden chests/boxes, they have a latch that can be locked and blend in well with the furnishings. First one was picked up as Pier One, the other three we got from Ross, surprisingly very cheap.

I am really happy about this topic. Clover and I have been using a cardboard box as well and although there isn't really a chance of anyone seeing it, it still doesn't look as nice as we'd like. It also is starting to become too small, with the more toys we buy.

Good luck with finding a toy box to use ^_^ I'll be watching this thread for ideas as well!

I am laughing reading cos I have kittens when people visit in case they find Master's toys many of which are hanging inside a cupboard in our bedroom. We have a lovely carved chest but it's not lockable and people seem unable to resist opening it and peeking inside so that was a non-starter!

If people will be here when we are not, and perhaps tempted to have a poke around, we put them in a travel bag which Master used to use when we first met. The little bits and bobs go in shoe boxes in Master's bedside cabinet. At the Erotica show in London this year we found a cane and crop carrier that Master is delighted with. Makes them look a bit like a fishing rod! Better than the old routine of having handles protruding from the bag and relying on chutzpah in walking thro hotel reception! (Easy for Master - and nerve-wracking for me - which of course makes it downright fun as far as he's concerned. lol As far as I know, no-one has ever given us a second look so he perhaps has a point.)

However, I have longterm plans for a dresser/wardrobe type affair which will be lockable and will contain drawers and hooks and shelves to accommodate all the different kinds of toys and tools Master owns. At the moment, that just means keeping an eye open for something suitable in junk shops and antique places.

Master has an old steamer trunk as well, and once more shorn fits inside.

The thought of it staggered my mind and struck me with a wave of envious desire. To be in such a situation, bought for the night, available to anyone at the crook of a finger!

Master uses a spike missile box that sits at the foot of the bed. It was picked up at an army disposal store for a very reasonable price. While it doesn't lock (no children) it has six very strong clasps on it, that are an adequate deterrent to casual peeking. It could be retro fitted with padlocks quite easily, if the need arose.

I don't have kids and really don't care what people see so my toys just hang up in the closet.

I use just duffel bag and a marine chart tube (you could also use a tube for blue prints, etc) for canes and crops when I am taking my toys out with me. Floggers, and whips should be hung up or layed flat when not in use so make sure your toy box is big enough for that. Do not store your whips coiled up.
